The boat repair committee of Paddle Steamer Curlip have finalised the due diligence and methodology to repair the hull of the vessel. Original reports of a total hull rebuild were premature. Only a small number of plank sections need replacement.
We are starting the process of liaising with our marine surveyors and marine regulators on the way ahead. The original estimates of $320,000.00 complete replacement hull were grossly overstated. After approvals, we will be applying a new epoxy saturated 22mm marine ply skin fitted with a flexible, waterproof membrane and mechanical fixing.
The Teredo worm's have been removed and the holes are undergoing repair, the new hull outer skin will provide an impervious waterproof barrier, that will flex with any minor hull movement.
Our crowd funding can now proceed, as we have established an accurate $85,000.00 repair and construction cost. A great outcome, thank you to our hard working and diligent committee.
